Lone Star Start

Today is Lone Star QAL day 2 which this month is hosted by Jayne. I've decided to use a pattern in this gorgeous Jelly Roll Quilts book by Pam and Nicky Lintott:
The quilt in the picture has four 29" lone stars cut from a jelly roll. Sections of the jelly roll strips are also used for pieced sashings and the finished quilt looks stunning. However before I plunge in to do the complete design I've decided to make just one block to hopefully get the hang of the stitching and cutting the diamonds. I've chosen some of my hand dyes and cut the fabrics into 2½” strips. My dyed fabric pieces are only around 15" square so I've cut several strips of each colour. The pattern uses 5 different colours so here are my choices:
As you can see I like bright colours!

Now I need to get on with the stitching. The instructions in the book are very clear with lots of pictures so I think I'll be able to follow them. Wish me luck!

  2. Oh what a change from last month! I love the idea of this star being smaller than is traditional. Your colors are fabulous.
