In September I started teaching classes including 2 beginner groups. The aim was to complete a small quilt based on a design which used squares and rectangles, in only 6 weeks. As you can sees above it has been very successful. My Monday evening class has completed the six weeks and look at what they've achieved - lovely quilts with only the binding to stitch to the back. One more student couldn't be at the last class but has almost finished too. Well done everyone!
My Tuesday class was called 'Free Motion Confidence'. I cajoled them to doodle designs then drop their feed dogs and have a go at stitching. Despite cries of 'I can't draw' everyone got stuck in and they have all grown tremendously in confidence in their stitching. To round off the course Glenwin decided to make a quilted bag and decorate it with a stitched sampler of some of the designs we tried:
The reverse shows up the variety of patterns - great stitching Glenwin!
Muriel has also been practising some trapunto and echo quilting around appliqué shapes to great effect:
I have another two groups on Friday also completing these six week courses - can't wait to see the results!
Next week we're moving onto 'Triangle Tricks' - a beginner course introducing half-square, quarter-square and flying geese triangles and an all abilities course 'Fabric Gifts'. If you live within striking distance of Boston Spa and would like to join in the fun visit my website for more details.
Well done everyone!!
